The threat posed to human health from airborne particulate matter (PM) pollution has become so serious that there is now a very real need for high filtration performance face masks, products that are easy and comfortable to wear.
The Industrial Research Institute of Nonwovens & Technical Textiles, College of Textiles & Clothing at Qingdao University in China has worked on developing a very breathable and thermal comfort filter medium that’s made up of electret polyethersulfone/barium titanate nanofibrous membrane.
This has been integrated with a nonwoven polypropylene substrate, with the membrane benefiting from a high porosity and optimised injection charge energy to endow it with good air permeability, modest water vapour permeability and an enhanced charge storage stability.
The electret medium has a high filtration efficiency of 99.9 per cent, as well as a low pressure drop of 67 Pa after being treated at 200 degrees C for 45 minutes.
Barium titanate is used in the manufacturing of brake linings, catalysts, electroceramics, refractory formulations and welding. If you’d like to find out more relating to its use or chemical contract processing in general, get in touch with the team here at Thermograde today.
