Thermograde Process Technology is a UK based Lead Titanate manufacturer using solid phase blending/calcining and subsequent micronising to produce a variety of grades.
As a Lead Titanate supplier Thermograde has many major customers worldwide.
The reaction between Lead Oxide and Titanium Dioxide forms a titanate phase of general formula PbxTiyOx+2y PbTiO3 is of technical interest because of its ferroelectric properties resulting from the large difference in size between the Pb2+ ion (1.20A) and the Ti4+ ion (0.60A). This allows the Ti4+ ion a high degree of mobility in the octahedral lattice. Application of an electric field to the crystal causes polarisation as the Ti4+ ions are drawn over to one side of the octahedron.
Perovskite structures, as adopted by some 300 ternary oxides, exhibit interesting dielectric and magnetic properties as a result of this polarisation. The ferroelectric behaviour of Lead Titanate makes it especially useful in modifying the dielectric properties of ceramic compositions in which Barium Titanate, BaTiO3 , is often the major component.
