A north-west chemical manufacturing company has revealed its plans for expansion after receiving help from a digital initiative.

Organic UK, which creates environmentally-friendly household cleaning products, anticipates its turnover will increase from £5 million a year to £8 million, reported Insider Media.

This is thanks to the Made Smarter Adoption Programme, which has been designed to encourage chemical manufacturing companies to use more digital technologies.

Technical director of the company Noel Doyle was quoted as saying: “We have always been proactive and positive about the challenges and opportunities in digitalising, but Made Smarter support has enabled us to really hone our vision.”

He added the initiative has assisted the firm in creating a digital roadmap and meant the company has been able to adopt technologies sooner than planned, which has helped it “overcome our challenges and barriers to growth”.

“We are now able to monitor and manage production on a scale that has so far not been possible,” Mr Doyle stated.

The Made Smarter Adoption Programme was launched by the government together with the chemical manufacturing industry.

Organica UK decided to make use of the project after it noticed demand for cleaning products increase since the global pandemic began. As a result, the company needed to boost production capacity, improve the management of its resources, and create new jobs.

By using advanced technologies, the chemical manufacturer is hoping its production processes will be 25 per cent more efficient, while it could also cut its energy consumption by ten per cent per ton of product, and limit waste by a fifth.
